The Essentials

Invest in Black.

The little black dress can add elegance to anything, whether it’s day or night. Not only is it modern and versatile, black is a very slimming color as well. One only needs to be sure that the dress is appropriate to your body type and can be used for any type of occasion. The hemline of the dress should be able to work for any event; meaning that it should not be too short or too long. Black dresses can be paired up with a pair of killer stilettos for wining and dining, or with some funky jewelry for a night on the town. Another good black investment would be a suit. Suits are great for any occasion because it can be worn together for a very professional look or be broken up to be paired with a vintage inspired top or a-lined skirt. Just remember that when purchasing any type of suit, it should be something that can be used numerous times. So while skinny pants are the in thing right now, choose something that is more modern, with pockets preferably.

A Great Pair of Jeans

Body hugging jeans are always a great investment. Choosing the right pair of jeans can be tricky, but once you find one that hugs your curves in the right way, you can never go wrong. Get a pair in a medium blue wash that way it can be paired with almost anything. Jeans with a little stretch is essential, that way you can throw them in the dryer and not have to worry about any shrinkage. Don’t be afraid to put a little money into this investment either, a great pair of jeans can be a long lasting investment.

Heels

A great pair of heels is always needed for any outfit. Whether they are a pair of show stopping stilettos, a pair of low cut heels, or a tall boot (I’d personally buy all three); whatever it may be, make sure they are comfortable. Also choose shoes that are in a neutral color, such as black or brown, that way they can go with anything.

Leather Handbag

A leather handbag is almost always needed for every wardrobe. Just remember to invest, invest, and invest. A good sturdy leather handbag may cost a pretty penny, but just remember that a good quality one will last throughout the ages. Again choose a color that will be suitable with anything in your wardrobe.

–> Spend money on the basic things. A classic t-shirt, a pair of everyday shoes, or a structured jacket. Though these items may cost more then you expected, you probably won’t be throwing them away at the end of each fashion season.
–> Buy neutral colors when picking out essential outfits. Even though you find that basic suit absolutely mesmerizing in red, it probably will not last too long in the future.
–> An extensive wardrobe is not necessary to look good everyday. A wardrobe can be easily changed with the switch of an accessory. Change things up with a lavish necklace, or a belt.
–> Handle your items with care. By taking care of your things, you’ll be able to ensure that they will last you in the long run, that way you’ll get good use out of them. Dry cleaning certain items can also extend the life of any garment.
When making a purchase, always remember to pick up the few necessities needed to complete an outfit. While fads come and go, classic style never goes out.
